We need a new conversation about a very old land grab.


On the same day that last month’s Taranaki Peace Walk started its journey to Parihaka Pa, the public hearings began on the Waitara Lands Bill, the proposed legislation which will enable Waitara lease properties to be freeholded.

This paper looks into the background behind the Waitara leases, and calls for a new conversation on this very old land grab.
